Dave's Picks 31 signals a genuine rejuvenation of the Grateful Dead. This night of music provides re-imagined classics and a foreshadowing of things to come in the new decade. New member Brent Mydland brings the organ back in to the band's sound and Jerry is in high cotton sonically. Set One includes rollicking versions of "Brown-Eyed Women," "Ramble On Rose," "It's All Over Now," "Althea," and "The Music Never Stopped." The second set is centered by a fearsome 28 minute "Scarlet>Fire" to a unique “Lost Sailor>Saint of Circumstance” and finishing with a fine combo of "Truckin'" and "Johnny B. Goode." Ready for some quiet after the storm? The 3rd disc fills out with "Estimated>Franklin's Tower>Jam" from the next night's show. This limited edition of 20,000 numbered copies has been mastered from Dan Healy's cassette recordings to HDCD by David Glasser.
